Sammy Gello-Ani, who co-promotes “Marvelous” Marvin Sonsona with well-known international matchmaker and promoter Sampson Lewkowicz, wants to make sure that the featherweight prospect gets “a really good hand-wrapping expert” for his next fight against former world champion Jhonny Gonzalez tentatively set for September.

Gello-ani said the cuts on both knuckles of Sonsona and his injured right hand which hampered him in his last fight against the resilient Arellano at the StubHub Center in Carson City when Sonsona won a close majority decision - proved they “can’t take things easy” when it comes to such details as proper hand-wraps.

Gello-ani who is back in Cebu told the New Standard/BoxingScene.com that they would check how Sonsona recovers from his injuries in the next two weeks and “if he’s okay a  September fight is viable.”

Meantime, Gello-ani who also partners with Lewkowicz in handling flyweight mandatory challenger Johnreil Casimero said the former IBF light flyweight champion has had “some good sparring in Los Angeles with Shane Mosley and his son and a couple of tough Mexicans and is back in Las Vegas where he was scheduled to spar yesterday.”

Aljoe Jaro, who is training Thai world champion Amnat Ruenroeng who will defend his title against Casimero in Bangkok on June 27, said Amnat “is doing well” in training and that he would return to Bangkok on June 16 along with former world flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro (40-13-5, 28 KO’s) who will see action on the Ruenroeng-Casimero undercard against an Indonesian opponent, Boy Tanto, whose record is an unimpressive 9-16 with one knockout but is coming off a twelve round unanimous decision over  Melianus Mirin.
