Kenny Porter, father and head trainer of former champion Shawn Porter, is very confident that his son will beat Keith Thurman in a rematch.

On Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Porter stopped fellow former champion Andre Berto in nine rounds to earn a second shot at Thurman. Porter mauled and punished Berto, dropping the veteran and beating on him against the ropes until the fight was finally stopped by the referee.

Porter and Thurman collided in June of last year, at Barclays, with Thurman winning a close and very competitive twelve round decision.

Last month Thurman unified the WBA, WBC welterweight titles with a twelve round decision over Danny Garcia.

Garcia claimed he was robbed and the fight was razor close, but Kenny Porter saw it as a one-sided fight in favor of Thurman.

"I did catch it, I didn’t think it was very close, I thought Keith put on a very good performance and I thought Keith got ahead early in the fight and I thought he kind of cruised to a win. He didn’t extend himself as much as you would have expected him to, but I thought he really had a unanimous decision in that fight, I didn’t really think it was close," Kenny told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.

Kenny plans to have a difference game plan if they get in the ring with Thurman for a second time. The time line of the rematch is unknown. Porter suffered two bad cuts during the win over Berto and those injuries will take some time to fully heal.

"Well if we go at Keith again, we are going to tweak the game plan, we are going to sharpen it up more, were going to be more responsible on defense, and yes we believe 1000% that we can beat him," Kenny said.
