The spotlight is burning brighter than ever as Jaron “Boots” Ennis becomes a more prominent name. Following several highlight-reel level knockouts, including against Sergey Lipinets, Thomas Dulorme, and Custio Clayton - the soft-spoken welterweight contender has been pegged as the division’s next big thing.

Ultimately, while his praises are being sung on a nightly basis, his frustrations are becoming more and more noticeable. Although his 2022 schedule has been feeble, making just one appearance, the hard-hitting contender was convinced that a world title opportunity was next on his agenda.

However, despite being the number one ranked contender in the IBF sanctioning body, a showdown against current unified champion, Errol Spence Jr., seems like a far-fetched idea.

So, in an effort to remain active, the 25-year-old will take on Karen Chukhadzhian on January 7th, at the Capital One Arena, in Washington D.C.

Derek “Bozy” Ennis, father and trainer of Jaron, has appeared ho-hum over their impending ring outing. If the decision were solely up to him, Derek would much rather see his son mix it up with the upper echelon of the 147-pound division. But, considering that his revered son continues to make his opponents look foolish, Derek understands why the best of the best have given him the cold shoulder.

With the Ennis family on the outside looking in, Derek begins to think out loud. Suddenly, a lightbulb flickers on. While he wouldn't advocate for his son to actually lose, Derek does see the benefit in somewhat reeling him in a bit.

With each of his son’s foes failing to push him past the sixth round, Derek has a hunch that if Jaron begins to look beatable, the rest of the division will develop a bit of courage.

“What we gotta do is go in there and look bad,” said Derek during an interview with YSM Sports Media. “Still win the fight but look bad. Set a little trap.”
