Ganigan Lopez and Jonathan Taconing are set for their junior flyweight title fight, which takes place Saturday evening at Arena Coliseo in Mexico City.

Both fighters came well inside the 108-pound weight limit for their Televisa-televised headliner. Lopez checked in at a trim and healthy 107 lbs., his same weight for when he claimed the junior flyweight crown. Taconing tipped the scales at 107.5 lbs. for his first career title fight.

The bout will mark the first defense of the junior flyweight belt for Lopez (27-6, 17KOs), who is granted a homecoming after having traveled to Japan to claim the crown from Yu Kimura this past March. Despite one oddball score of 114-114, the 34-year old boxer - who is approaching 13 full years in the pro ranks - came up big in his second crack at a major belt.

His previous swing resulted in a heartbreaking loss this time one year ago to countryman and then-champion Pedro Guevara, who faces Ruben Montoya in a 10-round flyweight battle on the undercard.

Taconing (22-2-1, 18KOs) comes in riding a nine-fight win streak - all by knockout - dating back to 2012. The hard-hitting contender from Philippines has fought just once before in Mexico, but it provided the 29-year old contender with a career-best win in stopping former strawweight champ Ramon Garcia in 10 rounds last April.

Saturday's bout will mark his first ring appearance since last September, when he scored a technical decision win over countryman Jomar Fajardo.

The winner of the main event could be looking at a future title defense versus Guevara, provided he gets past the visiting Montoya in the evening's chief support.

Guevara (27-2-1, 17KOs) remains in the hunt despite fighting at the flyweight limit on Saturday. The former champ weighed in at 111.75 lbs. for his second fight since losing his title to Kimura. His lone bout in between came this past February, outpointing Jether Oliva over 10 rounds in his hometown of Mazatlan, Mexico.

The 30-year old Montoya (14-3-1, 9KOs) came in right at the 112-pound divisional limit, as he aims for his third consecutive victory .
