The waiting is over. Several hours ago two-time Olympic gold medal winner Vasyl Lomachenko signed his promotional contract with Top Rank. Lomachenko will fight for the first time on Oct. 12 in Las Vegas as a part of Timothy Bradley vs. Juan Manuel Marquez undercard. Lomachenko's new moniker will be "Most Wanted".

Vasyl wants to fight for a world championship in January 2014 in his pro second. It took Guillermo Rigondeaux seven contests to achieve the same. While it's true that winning a major title in only his second pro bout is unparalleled - reigning recordholder Saensak Muangsurin of Thailand fought just twice before winning the WBC light welterweight title against Spaniard Perico Fernandez in 1975, and it took Veerapol Sahaprom, also of Thailand, one fight more to acquire Daorung Chuvatana's WBA bantamweight title in 1996. It's also worth noting that the fastest (in terms of physical time) track to the title belongs to Australian three-division world champion Jeff Fenech, who used just 197 days (but seven fights!) from his pro debut to grab the IBF bantamweight belt against Satoshi Shingaki in 1985. Vasyl Lomachenko may have a chance to break this record too.
