Takashi Uchiyama had to get up off the floor to defend his WBA super-feather championship belt and his unbeaten record against fellow Japanese fighter Takashi Miura in Tokyo. Uchiyama(17-0, 14 KOs) was knocked down in the third but then started to pick off Miura (20-2-2, 16 KOs) before finally winning the fight in the eight round. The referee stopped the fight after a series of left hooks left Miura unable to see out of his left eye.

On the same card, challenger Akifumi Shimoda won the WBA super-bantamweight title by beating Ryol Li Lee in another all Japanese contest.

Lee was on the canvas three times during the bout and the judges gave the fight to Shimoda 115-111, 118-109, 118-109 on the scorecards.
