Mexico's Miguel "Alacran" Berchelt saw his dream fulfilled by successfully defending his WBC super featherweight title by knocking out, at 2:43 seconds of the third round, late-replacement Maxwell Awuku in the main bout at the Oasis Arena in his native Cancun.

The public was overjoyed with Berchelt (33-1, 29 KOs), who was powerful and accurate in combat.

This was the second defense of the title that Berchelt won in January 2017, which improved his record to 33-1, 29 by way of the knockout, while the African challenger was left with a tally of 44-4-1, 30 knockouts.

Miguel faced a dangerous opponent, so in the early moments he was cautious, used his jab, controlled the African and sought to connect with the right.

Awuku, who threw some punches without the necessary aim, repeatedly failed to land. The champion dodged the blows and looked skillful in the ring, but the champion did not despair, was patient and at the right time hurt the challenger.
