The Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation and Mayweather Promotions hosted an incredibly successful Thanksgiving Giveaway at The Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA, and was supported by Mayweather Promotions’ fighters. By 6 a.m. this past Saturday, hundreds of families were lined up in anticipation to pick up a turkey basket filled with non-perishable food items and a turkey. Mayweather Promotions’ fighters Sharif Bogere, Andres Cortes, and Oluwafemi Oyeleye joined the giveaway to distribute turkeys and food baskets while greeting fans. An hour after the event commenced, all 400 turkeys and 200 food baskets were given away to thankful families who were filled with joy.

Many families admitted while picking up a basket, they didn’t even think they would have the opportunity to put a meal on the table this Thanksgiving holiday. The “Thanksgiving Giveaway” was created to help provide families with some essential food items needed to prepare a Thanksgiving meal during the holiday season. According to Feeding America, 1-7 Americans struggle with hunger and in 2015, 13.1 million children lived in food-insecure households, while Nevada ranked #5 with a 26.7% in childhood food insecurity.

“One thing that I have always taken pride and joy in doing is helping others,” says Floyd Mayweather, Founder and Director of The Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation. A lot of people don’t know the resources I put into giving back, and it doesn’t matter to me. What matters is the way people feel, and the appreciation they show when they receive help from others that are able to give back in any way.”

“I’m grateful for the support from our community and the attendance for this year’s giveaway, says President of The Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation, Nicole Craig.  This is the biggest giveaway to date. Over four hundred families joined us. This goes to show that there is a need for resources for families to have access to in providing meals for their families, and we’re glad we were able to help fill the void for some. It’s an amazing feeling to take part in helping families in our community. We wouldn’t have been able to host this large capacity without the support of the YMCA, and we appreciate their support in opening their doors to us.”

“There’s no better feeling than to see the smiles and gratitude on families faces knowing they will go home with food to prepare this Thanksgiving. It’s always been the duty of our foundation to give back to the community and this event was another prime example of the lives we are able to touch,” says Mayweather Promotions CEO, Leonard Ellerbe.

The vision of the Thanksgiving Giveaway is to raise awareness and cater to the needs of many under privileged families across the valley one step at a time. As one of our primary focuses is on promoting good health and wellness, it is imperative that we put forth the maximum effort in providing significant contributions in our annual Thanksgiving Giveaway. Over the course of 4 years we have been able to provide over 700 families in our community with turkeys and food baskets during this time of year.
