Photos: Lionell Thompson Upsets Jose Uzcategui Over Ten

State Farm Arena, Atlanta, Georgia - In a crossroads battle at super middleweight, Lionell Thompson (22-5, 12 KOs) moved down in weight to win an upset ten round unanimous decision over former world champion Jose Uzcategui (29-4, 24 KOs). The first round was a close boxing match - until the final seconds when Thompson landed a right hand that dropped Uzcategui. The jab and quick counters were given Uzcategui some issues. A cut opened up over the right eye of Thompson. Uzcategui was starting to land solid shots.

During the fourth, Thompson lost a point for holding, which seemed excessive by the referee. Both had their moments in that round. Thompson's jab was controlling the fifth.

After a good sixth for Thompson, Uzcategui came out very active in the seventh. Uzcategui continued to bring the fight to Thompson in the eight. Thompson landed solid shot early, before Uzcategui came on strong as the right played out. Thompson was jabbing very heavy during the ninth and controlling things.
