Lee Selby has signed a promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing.

The British and Commonwealth Featherweight champion will fight for the first time under Eddie Hearn in Blackpool’s Winter Gardens on April 20 as the chief support of Brian Rose’s hometown show live on Sky Sports in Betfair’s ‘The New Life of Brian’.

Selby will then co-headline a huge show in Cardiff on June 15 alongside new stable mate Gavin Rees as Hearn plots a route for the 26 year old to land a World title shot.

The Barry star has been in a rich vein of form since his stunning KO victory over Stephen Smith in Liverpool to rip the British and Commonwealth belts from the Merseysider’s grasp in his hometown, and stoppage wins over John Simpson and Patrick Okine were followed by a commanding defence of both belts against Martin Lindsay in Belfast in February.

“I’m very excited to box on Sky Sports and I think it’s my time to shine – I think I can become a World Champion,” said Selby. “I’m a confident guy – that’s just my attitude. I’ve started off at the bottom on non-televised shows and now I’m here it’s a great feeling and I have the chance to get the exposure I deserve.”

Hearn completed a hat-trick of signings in the last ten days with Selby joining George Groves and Ricky Burns, and the promoter believes Selby could become one of the biggest stars in his brilliant stable of British talent.

“We have signed some big names in the last few weeks but this one makes me very excited as Lee Selby is one of the most talented and exciting fighters in Britain,” said Hearn.

“This kid is going to become a World champion – it’s a bold statement but that’s our aim, we want to build him into a superstar, just like we’ve done with Kell Brook, Tony Bellew and Carl Frampton.”
