These days you will find former middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik, a native of Youngstown, Ohio, on the west coast of California as he trains under the eye of his new trainer Robert Garcia in Oxnard, California.

Pavlik is coming off of a disappointing 2011 campaign that saw him fight only once, winning a decision over Alfonso Lopez in May in Las Vegas, before pulling out of a scheduled August date with Darryl Cunningham that would have led to a crack at IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute if victorious.

Pavlik has had some personal issues in his life outside of the ring that apparently caused him to lose his edge as a fighter but he is now in a peaceful, boxing-oriented environment with Garcia and his team at the Oxnard Boxing Academy.

Soon to be 30 years of age, Pavlik is looking to make another push in his career but even Garcia admitted that it’s a step by step process as ‘The Ghost’ attempts to shake off the rust.

No word yet on Pavlik’s return but for now his supporters can take comfort in knowing his mind if again focused on boxing.
