At Plaza de Toros in Cancun, Mexico, WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (53-5-1, 39 KOs) knocked out Likar Ramos (24-4, 18 KOs) in the first round of a junior welterweight bout. One solid right hand ended Ramos and put him away. The fight was a tune-up to see how Marquez reacts to a higher weight for his November 12 trilogy fight with Manny Pacquiao, which takes place at a catch-weight of 144-pounds.

In the co-feature, former two division champion Rafael Marquez (40-6, 36 KOs) broke down Eduardo Becerril (12-8-2, 4 KOs) in five rounds, as he was unable to come out for round six. Marquez is now in line to fight WBC super bantamweight champion Toshiaki Nishioka in a tentative October battle in Las Vegas.

WBA junior flyweight champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (29-0, 24 KOs) stopped Mexico's Omar Salado (22-4-2, 13 KOs) in the seventh round. Gonzalez started fast, and tried to make his promise of a quick finish come true. He dropped Salado twice in the first round, but the Mexican challenger was able to survive the assault. Gonzalez began to punish and bloody his opponent until yet another knockdown was scored in the seventh round. Gonzalez secured the stoppage shortly thereafter.
