Centro de Usos Multiples, Hermosillo - In his first defense of the WBC super flyweight world championship, Juan Francisco Estrada (40-3, 27 KOs) broke down and stopped Dewayne Beamon (16-2-1, 11 KOs) in the ninth round. (photos by Ed Mulholland, Melina Pizano).

In his last fight, back in April, Estrada won a solid twelve round unanimous decision over Srisaket Sor Rungvisai to capture the WBC crown.

In the second round, the two were trading punches at close range and Beamon suffered a flash knockdown. A moment later, they went back to trading with a left hook to the head and body, and that sent Beamon down for a second time. Beamon did not appear hurt and continued to fight on.

In the third, Estrada was working Beamon over with hard punches to the head. Beamon's legs did not look very good and he was all the place.  Beamon recovered by the fourth and began to rally, landing good punches and making it a real fight in the next few rounds.

During the seventh, it was a brawl at close range when Estrada rocked Beamon - who stood his ground and made it a toe to toe fight, with Estrada having the clear edge. Beamon's left eye began to bleed as Etsrada pressed with combinations in the eight.

In the ninth, Estrada was working him and the referee jumped in to wave off the fight.
