It was a birthday bash in Cancun, Mexico for World Boxing Counil President Mauricio Sulaiman. Several promoters, trainers, past and future WBC world champions attended the gathering.

Among the participants were Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin, Adonis Stevenson, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., Abel Sanchez, Pepe Gomez, and Tom Loeffler.

Coincidentally, last year there were months of negotiations for a potential fight between Golovkin and Chavez Jr. at super middleweight. That fight never happened when Chavez left Top Rank and signed on with adviser Al Haymon. Golovkin, who has the WBA/IBO/IBF/WBC-interim belts is now going after his mandatory title shot against WBC middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

Then there was some talk of Chavez facing Adonis Stevenson earlier this year. Chavez had moved up to the light heavyweight division, but his campaign in that division ended after one fight after he was knocked out by top contender Andrzej Fonfara. Chavez plans to purse a fight with WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack. Stevenson is heading in the direction of a voluntary defense and then a potential unification with Sergey Kovalev.
