The six round fight was dominated by the pressure of the Cuban. During the round, Aguilera told officials that he could not continue fighting due to an accidental foul.

Aguilera complained Sanchez hit him with a punch to the back of the head and had a delayed reaction in going down to the mat. He refused to get up. Once he did, Aguilera then complained of a shoulder injury and said he was unable to use his left arm.

All three judges scored the six-round bout with identical cards of 60-54.
