This past weekend, former three division world champion Felix "Tito" Trinidad traveled over to Nicaragua, where the Puerto Rican icon was a special guest for the annual dinner presented by Association of Sport Writers of Nicaragua.

At the dinner, Trinidad was reunited with one of his career rivals, former champion Ricardo 'El Matador' Mayorga.

Trinidad and Mayorga fought in October 2004 at a packed Madison Square Garden in New York City. The contest was the headline fight of an HBO Pay-Per-View event, with Trinidad returning to the ring for the first time in over two years. There was a lot of action, with Trinidad suffering a flash knockdown in the third and then dropping Mayorga three times in the eighth for a knockout win.

Trinidad retired from the sport several times. A few months after beating Mayorga, Trinidad was dominated over twelve rounds by Winky Wright in May 2005 and retired afterwards. He made a very surprising comeback in January 2008, when he moved up to a catch-weight of 170-pounds to lose a twelve round decision to Roy Jones Jr. That was his final career bout. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2014.

Mayorga, however, is still planning to fight. Earlier this month, he held and press conference and announced a ring return on April 1, at the age of 43, in Managua, which is the capital of Nicaragua.

The former World Boxing Association (WBA) and World Boxing Council (WBC) champion has been inactive since August 2015, when he was knocked out in the sixth round in his rematch with Shane Mosley in California. The boxer's ultimate goal is to campaign in the middleweight division and work his way back to a world title opportunity.
