As late addition to the big PPV show, Dave Allen and Nick Webb’s eliminator for the British heavyweight title was viewed as a poor substitute for the cancelled Kell Brook vs Brandon Cook match. In the event it provided a dramatic finish as Allen landed a superb right hook to knock Webb out in the fourth round.

In truth neither heavyweight was in good condition and the the 6 ft 5 Webb, now 12-1, has the frame if not the physique of the modern heavyweight.

Allen, taking the match shortly after announcing a break from the sport and just five weeks after a gallant but potentially damaging ten round stoppage defeat to French prospect Tony Yoka, exhibited flashes of quality but was outworked through much of the short contest before finding his equaliser at last.

Webb scored well with the right uppercut and overhand right in particular before Allen started the third with a nice jab before again being outworked by Webb.

The fight took a dramatic turn in the fourth as Allen (now 14-4-2) opened with a lovely right over top, the best punch of fight and a precursor of what was to come just seconds later. Allen landed a hard left hook to the body before a looping right hook over the top floored Webb, the front of his neck landing on the bottom rope. The contest was over and the crowd - and to his credit Allen - hushed until it was clear Webb had recovered. The Doncaster man’s career is rescued and more big fights now appear on the horizon for the popular Yorkshireman.
