O2 Arena, London - Initially, it was ruled that Julio Cesar Martinez (14-1-1, 11 KOs) stopped Charlie Edwards (15-1, 6 KOs) in three rounds to capture the WBC world title. (photos by Mark Robinson, Dave Thompson).

But the fight was later overturned by the World Boxing Council, because of a late blow landed by Martinez while Edwards was already down on the mat.

The WBC plans to order a second fight.

Martinez became the mandatory challenger when he knocked out unbeaten Andrew Selby in five rounds back in March in Mexico.

Edwards was in action back in March as well, when he dominated Angel Moreno over twelve rounds at the Copper Box Arena.

Early on, Martinez was timing Edwards very well and landing solid shots to outpunch the champion.

In the third, Martinez blasted Edwards with a mass volume of punches to the head and body, and blasted him down for the full count.

There was come controversy at the end of the fight, because Martinez landed a punch late when Edwards was already down on the mat. The referee did not call the shot a foul and counted the British boxer out.
