Behind on all three scorecards going into the final round, Góngora decked Akhmedov in the first minute of the round, the first time Akhmedov ever suffered a knockdown, before finishing him off with a left uppercut to get the knockout victory at 1:57 of round 12.

Also on the card, John Ryder (29-5, 16 KOs), from London, won a unanimous decision (100-90, 99-91, 96-94 ) in a 10-round super middleweight bout over Michael Guy (12-6-1, 5 KOs), from Sacramento.

In her American debut, WBA super featherweight world champion Hyun Mi Choi (18-0-1, 4 KOs), of Seoul, successfully defended her title in a spirited fight, winning a 10-round unanimous decision (99-91, 98-92, 97-93) over Calista Silgado (19-12-3, 14 KOs), of Santiago de Tolu, Colombia. Silgado came in over the weight limit and was ineligible to win the title.
