Plant came out working a jab in the first round. Canelo was circling the ring and collecting data. Canelo would eventually begin to let his hands go and not landing too clean. Plant stuck to the jab and doing well with it. In the second, Canelo was applying a lot of pressure and coming forward as Plant was jabbing well and landed a left hand. Canelo connected with a good right and continued to press. Plant was countering well, but Canelo was landing the harder shots.
Plant let his hands go at the start of the third with punches to the head and body. Canelo was pressing and landing the harder shots, but Plant was doing well with his boxing and movement. The fourth began with Plant unleashing a number of punches to the head and body. It was close action, with Canelo landing the more impressive shots and Plant boxing well, with punches connecting.
Plant doing good defense in the fifth and he was connecting more often, with Canelo stalking and looking to do damage with big shots. In the sixth, Plant unloaded with several combinations at the start. Canelo was pressing and looking to unload with body shots. Canelo began to cut off the ring well and was doing better offensively with the jab. In the seventh, Canelo was coming forward and really looking to do damage.
Canelo was sitting down on his punches more in the eight. Plant was boxing and moving, but not throwing as much as he did in the previous rounds. A battle of jabs in the ninth. Canelo was doing most of the throwing, but Plant was blocking many of the shots and was looking for counters. The counters were landing and he was still holding his own. In the tenth, Canelo was still pressing forward with Plant boxing and jabbing. Canelo was connecting with heavy body shots.
During the eleventh round, Canelo landed several heavy blows to send Plant down for the first time in his career. Plant got up, with Canelo going right after him with heavy punches to send Plant crashing down again and the fight was waved off.
