On Tuesday afternoon in Mexico, the WBC weekly press conference culminated with a celebration, as they welcomed the new WBC super bantamweight world champion Brandon Figueroa and his family members who traveled all the way from Texas.

Figueroa officially received his WBC title, that he won last Saturday, May 15, by stopping  the previously undefeated Luis Nery in a Showtime televised main event from Los Angeles.

“I feel very blessed and grateful to everyone who has made it possible for me to be here," Figueroa said.

“My family and I have sacrificed many things, but today I can say that all that has been worth it. I come from a humble family, from parents who worked hard to get ahead and that makes me value everything I have even more.

“I can hardly express how I feel at this moment. I am very happy and full of enthusiasm, and I can only reciprocate this,  by being a worthy representative of the WBC and Mexico, since I consider myself a son of the Aztec land.”
