Cecilia Braekhus (23-0, 7 KOs) came face-to-face with her opponent Myriam Lamare (22-3, 10 KOs) for the first time at today’s final press conference. Lamare will challenge the pound-for-pound number one for her WBC, WBA & WBO Female Welterweight titles at the Arena Nord in Frederikshavn on Saturday night.

‘’It’s exciting to start the year with such a tough fight,’’ said Breakhus. ‘’Lamare is very physical and extremely fit so it will be a good test of my ability. She looks really focused, so I can tell she is ready for this fight, but so I am! On Saturday night, I will show everyone why I am the best pound-for-pound fighter.’’

‘’I think Cecilia is a great boxer,’’ said Lamare. ‘’But this fight will only be the second time she has fought a truly world class opponent, the first being Anne Sophie Mathis. I have trained hard and I am ready. I look forward to taking the belts back home with me to Marseille.’’

Promoter Nisse Sauerland described the match up as ‘’the best versus the best.’’ Adding ‘’Lamare has said that she has spotted some weaknesses in Cecilia’s previous fights. I would be interested in finding out what these are as I haven’t seen any in her previous 23 fights and neither have her opponents.’’

Erik Skoglund (18-0, 9 KOs) will make the first defence of his EU Light Heavyweight title against Adasat Rodriguez (9-2-1, 6 KOs), the man known as ‘’El Toro’’ (‘’The Bull’’) in his native Spain, on Saturday night in Frederikshavn.

At today’s final press conference, Rodriguez revealed the reason behind his nickname. ‘’Of course it comes from my Spanish heritage but also my boxing style because I keep coming forward like a bull. The fans at home started to call me ‘’El Toro’’ and it stuck. Now, I am known to everyone as ‘’El Toro’’.’’

On Saturday night, Skoglund must tame ‘’El Toro’’ in order to retain his EU crown. ‘’Maybe I will be the matador and wave a red cape around the ring,’’ joked Skoglund. Before adding: ‘’In all seriousness, I am expecting a tough fight but it is a fight I believe I will win.’’

Joining Skoglund in action at the Arena Nord is his fellow countryman Anthony Yigit (7-0-1, 2 KOs), who must get passed Radolslav Mitev (4-15-1, 1 KO) to claim his eighth professional victory.

The Nordic Fight Night in Frederikshavn is available to watch on Viasat 4 from 19.30-0.30. Tickets are available from arenanord.dk.
