Brentwood - Alen Babic is now unbeaten in eight fights – all stoppages – after he forced Mark Bennett to be pulled out by his corner at the end of the seventh round of a heavyweight fight that bore only a passing resemblance of the sweet science at Fight Camp. (photos by Mark Robinson)

Bennett looked completely exhausted midway through the first round but as much as Babic hit him, he couldn’t shift him, so the fight became a tale of how much punishment Bennett could take.

Early on, Babic looked set for another early win, as he piled in with straight punches, but Bennett, who outweighed Babic by 62 pounds, proved to be tough.

After three rounds, Bennett could barely lift his hands, but he did his best to land punches in return. He often landed cleanly, although the blows can’t have been carrying much power and could be brutally slow.

By the fifth Babic, who had resolutely refused to throw any body punches, battered Bennett (7-2) around the ring and while referee Lee Every did not pay attention to the increasingly urgent call from spectators ringside to stop the fight, Bennett’s corner retired him at the end of the fifth round.
