Phil Sutcliffe Jr. is the latest Irishman to join the MGM stable after inking a managerial deal with the company.

The 27-year-old super-lightweight, from Dublin, follows the likes of Stephen Ormond and Ian Tims in signing with the Puerto Banus-based outfit, which is fronted by now-retired former three-time world title challenger Matthew Macklin.

Having lost his undefeated record on away soil earlier this year, when he dropped a points decision at the hands of Anthony Yigit in Germany in May, Sutcliffe Jr. got back on track with a first round stoppage of the vastly overmatched Geiboord Omier in July.

And now he’s looking to push on towards a world title with the backing of one of the sport’s most well-recognised groups.

“[It’s] exciting times ahead for myself and my new team,” Sutcliffe Jr. said.

“I believe we are about to accomplish more than we set out for!

“I’m looking forward to getting started with MGM and let[ting] my boxing do the talking.”

The management team at MGM are delighted with their latest capture as well as the additions they’ve made to their roster over the past few days.

They said: “We are extremely happy with the business we have done this week.

“We believe Phil is one of the best boxers in Ireland and we are delighted he decided to come on board.

“The future is bright and together we believe it won’t be long before Phil brings major belts back to Dublin.”

Sutcliffe will have his first fight under the management of MGM on October 7 at Greenbank Sports Academy in Liverpool, as part of a bill which already features former British middleweight title challenger Tom Doran and Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Sam Maxwell, who makes his debut on the card, among others.
