NEW YORK – Danny Garcia beat Lucas Matthysse, but according to Lamont Peterson the undefeated Philadelphia fighter isn’t in Matthysse’s class as a puncher.

Argentina’s Matthysse dropped Peterson three times on his way to a third-round technical knockout in May 2013 in Atlantic City. Peterson (33-3-1, 17 KOs), of Washington, D.C., wasn’t affected nearly as much by Garcia’s hardest punches during a majority decision defeat to Garcia in their 12-round welterweight fight Saturday night at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.

“No disrespect to him,” Peterson said, “but I didn’t feel any of his punches.”

Garcia (30-0, 17 KOs) hardly seemed offended by Peterson’s assessment, yet offered some criticism of his own.

“I mean, I didn’t really feel his punches either because he was moving for like 10 rounds,” Garcia said. “But, you know, it’s a fight. He can say what he wants to say. I got the victory. There ain’t nothing much more to say, but I got the win.”

Judges Kevin Morgan and Steve Weisfeld scored Garcia a 115-113 winner Saturday night in a bout broadcast by NBC. The third judge, Don Ackerman, scored the fight a draw (114-114).
