Stephen Fulton and Brandon Figueroa will have to wait an additional week for their 122-pound title unification fight.

BoxingScene.com has learned that Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions and Showtime have agreed to move the telecast topped by the Fulton-Figueroa fight from September 11 to September 18. The card headlined by Philadelphia’s Fulton (19-0, 8 KOs) and Figueroa (22-0-1, 17 KOs), of Weslaco, Texas, likely will be held at Park Theater at Park MGM in Las Vegas.

The initial date for Fulton to fight the winner of the Figueroa-Luis Nery match May 15 was announced as part of Showtime’s four-month schedule of fights late in April. Delaying the Fulton-Figueroa show one week made more sense, though, once it became clear Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant would not fight September 18.

PBC planned for Alvarez-Plant to headline a FOX Sports Pay-Per-View show September 18. Mexico’s Alvarez (56-1-2, 38 KOs) and Plant (21-0, 12 KOs) might meet later this year in the super middleweight title unification fight Alvarez wants, but the night of September 18 became a completely open date for televised boxing in the United States once they couldn’t come to an agreement to fight that night.

Had PBC and Showtime kept Fulton-Figueroa on September 11, the telecast would’ve competed at least for some viewers with Triller Fight Club’s pay-per-view show. Long-retired legend Oscar De La Hoya and former UFC star Vitor Belfort will fight in Triller’s main event September 11 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Fulton-Figueroa is undoubtedly a lower-profile fight than De La Hoya-Belfort. They’re undefeated world champions, however, entering one of the best bouts that can be made within the 122-pound division.

They’ll fight for Fulton’s WBO junior featherweight title and the WBC super bantamweight championship Figueroa won when he stopped a favored Nery (31-1, 24 KOs) in the seventh round nearly four months ago at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. Fulton won the WBO 122-pound crown in his last fight – a decisive, 12-round, unanimous points victory over Angelo Leo (21-1, 9 KOs) on January 23 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
