Union City, NJ – On February 9th, Pound for Pound Promotions will be presenting their first show, aptly titled “Night of the Rising Stars,” at Park Theater in Union City, NJ.  President and CEO of Pound for Pound Promotions John Lynch—brother of Pat Lynch, manager to the now retired Arturo Gatti and other fighters—promises to deliver an action-packed night of boxing that will undoubtedly endear fight fans to his stable of young charges.

In the main event, undefeated Pawel Wolak (19-0, 13 KOs) will face rugged Miami, FL native David Turbio (14-10, 8 KOs) in a 10-round junior middleweight contest.  Wolak, a resident of Mount Arlington, NJ, is making quite a name for himself in the Jersey boxing scene and abroad—knocking out seven of his 13 victims within the first two rounds.  In his last fight on December 15th, 2007, he won a unanimous decision over Sammy Sparkman in his native Poland.

The co-feature will have Lyndhurst, NJ’s own Wayne “Lights Out” Johnsen (17-3, 9 KOs) fighting in an 8-round super middleweight bout.  Johnsen gained national notoriety when he fought in the “Contender” series just a few short months ago.  In his last fight, Johnsen lost a unanimous decision to gritty veteran Sam Soliman (35-10, 13 KOs).

“Night of the Rising Stars” will also feature a number of young and talented boxers eager to have fight fans remembering their names for years to come.  Noriko Kariya (8-2, 2 KOs) of Jersey City, NJ will be fighting in a 6-round bantamweight contest.

All fighting in 4-round contests will be super middleweight Bayonne, NJ native Bobby Rooney (6-2, 3 KOs), Bronx, NY junior middleweight sensation and three-time NY Golden Gloves champion Ronny Vargas (4-0, 3 KOs), New Brunswick, NJ bantamweight Jorge Diaz (2-0, 2 KOs), two-time national champion and Paterson, NJ native Jeremy “Hollywood” Bryan (2-0) and making his pro debut, Union City’s own Jason Escalera.
