Jake Paul has heard the demand from his critics and—in his mind—has responded to the challenge.

Following five wins in as many fights over opponents who’d never previously boxed professionally, the 24-year-old social media celebrity-turned-cruiserweight prospect is set to face a legitimate boxer for the first time as a pro. It will mark the first time that Paul (5-0, 4KOs) enters as the lesser experienced fighter as he faces four-year pro Tommy Fury (8-0, 4KOs) atop a Showtime Pay-Per-View event August 6 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

“I’m the people’s champ. I’m giving the people what they want,” Paul said. “What they wanted was, ‘Fight a real boxer.’ That’s what they kept telling me. I fought a five-time UFC champion in my fourth fight, but ‘fight a real boxer.’

“So here is a young kid, same age, same height, same reach and with a better record than me. He’s been boxing his entire life, his brother is the heavyweight champion of the world. He has the name, he has the following. He has star power. It’s the perfect fight.”

The bout is scheduled for eight rounds at a maximum catchweight of 192 pounds.

Manchester’s Fury—the younger half-brother of lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (32-0-1, 23KOs)—picked up a decision win back in April, as part of the undercard to his older brother's defense against Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium in London.

In addition to scratching that itch, Paul now gets to show what he can do versus an actual boxer. His five wins to date have come versus a fellow YouTuber in AnEsonGib, former NBA star Nate Robinson and a pair of retired former MMA champions in Ben Askren and Woodley.

“When I win by knockout over Tommy Fury, people will have nothing left to say,” vowed Paul. “All the people, all the media who have doubted me and had things to say about me years ago, ‘Oh Jake Paul is bad for boxing,’ I’m going to shut you all the f--- up. You will put respect on my name. You wanted a real boxer? No f------- problem.”
