On Wednesday, the news broke that heavyweight contender Derek Chisora had parted ways with his manager of the last three years, David Haye.

The split appears to have been amicable, with Haye wishing Chisora nothing but the best with the future of his career.

Back in May, Chisora was on the receiving end of a twelve round split decision loss to former WBO world champion Joseph Parker.

In recent weeks, there has been heavy discussion of a rematch, as some observers felt Chisora had done enough to win.

David Higgins, the manager of Parker, believes Haye made a calculated decision to jump ship before it fully sunk.

He feels Haye is under the belief that his former client was going to get knocked out in the proposed rematch and ran for higher ground.

Higgins feels confident that his boxer will end the Chisora rematch with a dramatic knockout victory to set the record straight.

"I think Haye realizes that Joseph Parker is going to knock Chisora out and put him into retirement and so maybe he wants to jump off the ship before it sinks," Higgins told Sky Sports. "If Joseph were to finish Chisora by stoppage, which we think he will, then it's the end of meaningful boxing matches for Chisora.

"I was a little bit surprised [about the split]. They seemed a pretty tight unit. David obviously knows his way around boxing, both in the ring and promotionally. They are probably just heading in different directions. Unfortunately, I'm not available. He's been through a lot of battles, he's experienced. He nearly beat Joseph. It was very close and he knows what he's doing. As much as I'd like to claim some psychological edge, I don't think so."
