There is controversy brewing in New Zealand over Joseph Parker's twelve round majority decision win over Andy Ruiz to capture the vacant WBO heavyweight title on Saturday night in Auckland.

Two judges saw it 115-113 for Parker and the third ruled it as a draw with a card of 114-114. Neither side disputes the close nature of the contest, but both fighters believe they did enough to win.

Lance Revill, President of the New Zealand Professional Boxing Association, told Tony Veitch that Ruiz was clearly robbed in the contest.

Revill felt the New Zealand boxing fans were "ripped off" and he was furious over the outcome.

"Joseph Parker didn't win that fight," Revill said. "Get real New Zealand. We haven't got a New Zealand heavyweight champion."

"We got ripped off. It was a lopsided fight and I feel sorry for Andy Ruiz. Something stinks about this fight, something stinks about the whole set-up. There wasn't a bad word said about Joseph Parker. The whole press is on his side, he's been given a dream ride right through."

Parker's promoter, Dean Lonergan of Duco Sports, erupted over Revill's claims.

"I can't believe that Lance Revill, a man who has been involved in boxing all his life, would come out and be as negative and disrespectful as he has been," Lonergan said to Fairfax Media.

"Lance Revill is nothing but an irrelevance and he should crawl back into his hole of obscurity and lock the door with the key of irrelevance because, bottom line, the guy's an idiot."

"I look at his comments in disgust and think, how dare you try and drag down the greatest boxing achievement this country has ever seen and claim you have the love of the sport at heart. You're being an idiot Lance."
