The heavyweight boxing champion Joseph Parker is relieved his three month training camp has not been in vain.

Parker, the WBO title holder, will fight two metre tall Romanian Razvan Cojanu in Auckland next week after mandatory challenger Hughie Fury withdrew from the bout last week citing a back injury.

Stuart Duncan, from Parker's management company Duco, says Cojanu, who's ranked 14th in the world, was the only credible contender to fight Parker.

Duncan says Parker has been in a training camp since January and preparing for a tall opponent so, any replacement had to be at least a metre 95.

"The way I see this fight is that it's more dangerous than the Fury fight. The reason I say that it because he has power but he also knows how I fight. He knows my style and technique (because) he's been in camp with us before and I am looking forward to seeing who is going to figure out who first," said Parker.

Cojanu made his professional debut in 2011 and has 16 wins from 18 bouts, including two by knock out.

He has previously signed contracts to fight contenders Jarrell Miller, Dillian Whyte and the most avoided man in the division, Luis Ortiz, only for all three opponents to drop out.

Conjanu is big and mobile with a strong left rip and hook and has the advantage of knowing what Parker has been working on in camp.

Parker used Cojanu extensively in the buildup for his fight against Russian Alexander Dimitrenko in October.
