Paddy Barnes will return to the ring towards the end of the summer.

The former WBO European flyweight champion has been out of action since last November.

Barnes will be back between the ropes on August 18, however, and will feature alongside long-time friend Carl Frampton.

Frampton, the WBO interim featherweight champion, will headline at Belfast’s Windsor Park, exclusively live on BT Sport.

And Boxing Scene understands that it will be formally confirmed at a press conference in the city on Monday that three-time Olympian Barnes will join him on the card.

‘The Leprechaun’, 31, knocked out Eliecer Quezada at the SSE Arena at the tail end of last year to snag the vacant WBO Inter-Continental belt and will now look to build on his undefeated record that stands at 5-0 with one early.

He had long been associated with a professional showdown against Zou Shiming, his amateur nemesis, while a fight against WBO world champion Sho Kimura has also been mentioned.

Further details regarding the identity of Barnes’ next foe will be revealed in due course.

The former unified world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, who returned after a 924-day hiatus recently, will fight again on the same card as Barnes and Frampton, with further undercard additions to come.

IN OTHER NEWS: Craig Glover will return to the ring next month.

The once-defeated cruiserweight scored a showreel stoppage in his last outing.

Glover, 25, took out Ratu Latianara inside 30 seconds at the ECHO Arena back in April.

And he will be looking to improve on his ledger and add to his momentum when he returns on July 21.

He will box on the MTK Liverpool card at Greenbank Sports Academy in his home city.

Heavyweight Sean Turner will fight on the card, while there is action for the returning John Quigley, who lost to Declan Geraghty last time out, and Steven Lewis.

Alex Dickinson, who scored a highlight reel knockout against David Howe on the undercard of Tyson Fury’s comeback at Manchester Arena recently, is also lined up to feature on the bill, alongside Winsford’s Nathan Clarke, whose last fight was against Conor Benn, as well as Brian Phillips and Ged Carroll.

Details regarding the broadcasting of the show will be revealed in due course.

Tickets for the show are available from the MTK Liverpool gym in the city centre or from the fighters.
