Streaking super flyweight Oscar Vasquez (14-1) is looking to pick up his 13th win in a row when he faces Victor Ruiz (22-7) Friday night at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, Nevada. The fight headlines a card put on by Terry Lane's Let's Get it on Promotions.

The 30-year-old Vasquez has been plagued by inactivity throughout his career but is enjoying a breakthrough in 2017.  The fight against Ruiz will be his fifth of the year and he said increased workload is paying dividends.

"This is the first time I have ever been this busy. It actually feels really good.  You stay more sharp with this type of activity even though it is a little more tiring because I have never done this many fights in a year but I love it. If I can stay busy like this it is better for my career," Vasquez stated.

Vasquez believes that Ruiz is the perfect type of opponent at this stage in his career and that this is the type of fight that will help prepare him for the bigger fights that he is hoping to land in 2018.

"He is a tall southpaw. He is in the top 8 I believe in the WBO. I have never fought a southpaw except in the amateurs. I've been sparring Bruno Escalante and I did amazing. I feel great. As long as I land my jab I can land anything," Vasquez explained.

The rise of Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez has helped the often ignored lower weight classes get more recognition and exposure on premium networks like HBO and has paved the way for fighters like Juan Francisco Estrada, Carlos Cuadras and Naoya Inoue to also perform on bigger platforms in the United States.

Vasquez hopes that a win on Friday will put him in the mix to face that level of opponent in the near future.

"It is the best thing to happen to us up and coming fighters. Those guys are amazing fighters. That Japanese guy, they call him The Monster and he is a monster. There is Estrada who is a really tough fighter and Chocolatito who is one of the greatest fighters and a bunch of other guys. It is a hot division and I hope it stays hot. It is better for us to get bigger fights and bigger paydays," Vasquez told BoxingScene.com while also stating that he plans on being in the building for the second Super Fly card that is being planned for February in Los Angeles.

"Most definitely. I want to be there in attendance and check it out but if everything goes well on Friday I would like to fight the top guys next year like the WBO champion (Inoue) and I would like to fight the IBF (flyweight) champion Donnie Nietes and then hopefully win one of those titles and then fight Estrada. If anything I would like to fight him."
