MANDALAY BAY, Las Vegas, NV - On Saturday night former two-division champion Orlando "Siri" Salido (44-13-4) will return to the ring in the main event of a HBO televised triple header. His opponent will be fellow Mexican Mickey Roman (57-12). The telecast will be rounded out by two more super featherweight bouts.  Former champion Francisco Vargas will face Stephen Smith and Tevin Farmer will face Kenichi Ogawa for the vacant IBF title.

The 37-year-old Salido was originally slated to face WBC champion Miguel Berchelt but when Berchelt pulled out of the fight with an injury an agreement was made with Roman. As a veteran of over 20 years in the sport, Salido is taking the change of opponents in stride.

"My opponent changed but those things happen in the sport. People get hurt. Berchelt got hurt and now I am fighting Mickey Roman who is a warrior and I think it will still be a good fight," Salido told BoxingScene.com.

The fight against Roman was originally sanctioned to be for the WBC interim super featherweight title and the winner would eventually get a crack at Berchelt. Those plans however were scrapped when HBO approved the fight to only be for 10 rounds instead of the necessary 12 rounds needed for a championship fight, much to the dismay of WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman.

Salido said that he was training for a 12 round fight and would have preferred fighting for an interim title but isn't letting things that are out of his control affect him.

"That was a decision that was made and I am not sure why. I don't know what the problem was. I was getting ready for 12 rounds and then they told me it is going to be 10 rounds.  There isn't anything I can do about it," he explained.

As for the fight itself, Salido is very confident that his experience will be one of the big keys to getting a victory. Roman actually has more professional fights under his belt but Salido has faced much better opposition.

"I have fought the better opponents. I have fought big names and I think that is going to be an advantage for me," opined Salido.
