Featherweight contender Jonathan "Polvo" Oquendo had some sparring time with two-time world champion Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez for the scheduled commitment on December 5 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Oquendo's fight is part of the Showtime broadcast with WBA "regular" middleweight champion Danny Jacobs defending his belt against Peter Quillin in the main event.

Oquendo will face WBA "regular" featherweight champion Jesus Cuellar. In September of 2014,  Cuellar knocked out Juanma in two rounds. It was the last time Juanma fought. he retired not long after that bout.

Oquendo said the sparring was very good and former champion Ivan Calderon was nearby, giving his comments.

"I did three sparrings with Juanma, who was also training. We never talked about Cuellar. He never told me what to do, what I had to watch out for," said Oquendo to Carlos Gonzalez.

"Ivan threw me some comments in about Cuellar style. The sparring were good. They were excellent sparring [sessions], so many thanks to [Lopez]."
