Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico – Newly signed Top Rank prospect Omar Henry impressed his new bosses with a spectacular performance in the Mexican west coast sea town of Ensenada.  A left hook started his opponent, Alfonso Gonzales, reeling backwards only a few seconds after the opening bell, and a straight right hand ended it, sending his foe to the canvas with wobbly legs prompting the referee to halt the bout.

The bout was Henry’s first outside of the USA and he was able to gain some new fans south of his home state of Texas.  Top Rank partnered with Zanfer Promotions to hold the fight at Gimnasio Oscar “Tigre” García

Omar is a twenty-two year old light middleweight who won the Texas Golden Gloves and USA regional before attending Northern Michigan University as part of the USOEC program.

After turning professional with a first round knockout, Omar has improved upon each previous victory with successively quicker first round stoppages.  Since defeating Terrence Anderson and Justin Davis in Houston, Henry has beaten Francisco Martinez in California and now Gonzalez in Mexico.

Omar described his bout, “I felt really good that I went out there and did what I was trying to accomplish.  But there are things for me to improve and next week I’ll be back in the gym with Ronnie and Jay just getting better.”
