Ohara Davies warmed up for his next fight next month with a points win.

The Hackney lightweight was fighting at welterweight at Elland Road in Leeds, as part of the undercard to hometown hero Josh Warrington’s IBF featherweight world title challenge against Lee Selby, after two late changes of opponent.

Davies was originally meant to fight Christopher Sebire over 10 rounds on the card, before he switched to fight Jack Catterall in a challenge for the WBO Inter-Continental super-lightweight title.

That left Davies, whose last fight was last September in Liverpool, set to take on Melvin Wassing.

Wassing weighed in on the steps of Leeds Civic Hall on Friday, but it was Davies’ MTK stablemate Ahmed Ibrahim in the opposite corner on the night.

Davies moved his man around for the full six, working on things ahead of his fight with IBF European and IBF Inter-Continental super-lightweight champion Josh Leather on June 23 at the O2 Arena in London, exclusively live on BT Sport and BoxNation, as part of the supporting cast to Billy Joe Saunders’ WBO middleweight title defence against St Helens’ four-time former world title challenger Martin Murray.

The referee John Latham failed to award the man who stepped in at less than 24 hours’ notice a round as he scored it 60 points to 54 in favour of Davies.

Earlier in the card, Mark Heffron stopped his latest opponent inside four rounds to keep up his flawless record as a professional.

The Oldham man, 26, is now 19-0 with 15 early finishes after securing another quick finish in Leeds.

Heffron ended the challenge of the gallant Adam Grabiec in round four, as part of the undercard to Lee Selby’s IBF featherweight title defence against Josh Warrington at Elland Road, exclusively live on BT Sport and BoxNation.

He was dominant throughout and the referee had finally seen enough of the contest before calling an end to it after two minutes and 36 seconds of the round, making short work of the visitor in the scheduled eight-round contest.

And Danny Wright won a shutout against Mikey Sakyi over six rounds to move to 9-0.

Sakyi, who lost by 60 points to 54, is now 5-2.
