WBA super lightweight world champion, Mario Barrios (25-0, 16 KOs), was honored on October 31, 2019 by the city of San Antonio, Texas in recognition of winning his first world title, which occurred last month on Fox PPV.

Barrios, a humble fighter who is a positive role model in his community, was excited to be recolonized by Mayor Ron Nirenberg of San Antonio, TX.

"It is tremendous getting the support of my community,"  said Barrios. "I am a San Antonio native, and I am proud to be from San Antonio, and to be honored by the city I grew up in, is as meaningful as winning the world title. I have worked so hard just to get to this point and it means so much to me, words can not express.  I want to thank Mayor Ron Nirenberg and his colleagues for their continued support."

Barrios defeated Batyr Akhmedov by unanimous decision, after dropping Ahkmedov twice in the fight, en route to a star-making performance that saw him win an unanimous decision, and the first world titlist from San Antonio in 25 years.

"Being a world champion was my number one goal in the sport of boxing, and now keeping the belt is my main priority,"continued Barrios. "Knowing San Antonio is behind me 100% makes me that much more focused than ever to keep my title."

Mayor Ron Nirenberg, District 14 Representative Adriana Rocha, Judges Cynthia Chapa and Peter Sakai, were on hand to present the undefeated fighter, Mario Barrios with the award as Barrios looks forward to more titles in his near future.

This past Saturday from the San Antonio Shrine Auditorium in San Antonio, Texas, Henry "World Star" Arredondo (8-0, 4 KOs) picked up the biggest win of career by beating fellow undefeated foe, Rafael Morales (3-1 1KO), via an eight-round unanimous decision.

Arredondo was tested against a fighter tough as nails and had to dig deep to pull out the victory, which he did.

"Rafael Morales is a really tough fighter and I have a ton of respect for him.," said Arredondo. "I had to fight with all my heart to be able to beat him, it wasn't an easy fight, but I know these are the type of fights that make me better. As I step up in competition, I know the fights are going to get tougher. I was determined to get the victory and I came out on top."

Arredondo saw a three-fight knockout streak come to an end, but his coach is fine with his performance.

"We can't knock out every opponent, and Rafael Morales is the type of fighter that helped 'World Star' get rounds in early in his career," said Rick Nunez, Arredondo's coach and mentor. "I know he can develop into a great fighter. We all love knockouts, but we love fighters who can win at the highest levels of the sport. This kid had a lot movement and I like what I saw from Henry as he made the proper adjustments."

Danila Ramos’ (8-1, 1 KO) coach Marcos Martinez is confident his fighter can defeat Katharina Thanderz (12-0, 2 KOs) to claim the interim WBC Female World Super Featherweight title when they meet on November 16th in Oslo.

The experienced Argentinian coach believes he has spotted ‘failures’ in Thanderz, and expects the Norwegian fighter to be 'surprised' when she meets Ramos as part of a huge night of boxing at the iconic Ekeberghallen venue.

“We’ve had a very intense camp with a lot of commitment,” reveals Martinez. "We are working very hard for this fight. We have one goal and that's to win the World title. We know that Katharina is a very strong offensive boxer, but we see failures in her too. Our tactical plan will not be revealed until November 16th, but Katharina will be surprised by Danila's power and skill.

“I have been training Danila since she came to live in Argentina when she was 10 years old, and she has been training and sparring with World Champions. She is a tough female fighter, who loves to fight and loves to train hard. She has been living the life of a World Champion, and now it’s time to get her title!"

Having missed out on the same WBC strap against French fighter Elhem Mekhaled earlier this year, Ramos gets a second attempt at World glory, and Martinez is convinced that this time ‘A Guerreira’ takes home the belt.

“We’ve had a really great amount of time to prepare for this fight and to plan all the psychological, technical and tactical components. We didn’t have that last time, but Danila still delivered a very high quality performance, and she has become mentally stronger since that fight. She's a different fighter now and this is her chance to do it. She belongs at the top with the best in the division.”

Katharina Thanderz headlines a huge show at the historic Ekeberghallen as she faces Danila Ramos for the interim WBC Female World Super Featherweight crown, while Kai Robin Havnaa looks to bolster his World title claim in a crunch cruiserweight clash with American dangerman Al Sands, and top talents Kevin Melhus, Alexander Hagen, Bernard Torres and Kent Erik Baadstad complete an action-packed card in the Norwegian capital.
