Former cruiserweight champion and Sky Sports pundit, Johnny Nelson, views Oleksandr Usyk as the best fighter that Anthony Joshua, to date, will face in the ring.

This coming Saturday night at Tottenham Stadium, Joshua will defend his WBO, WBA, IBF, IBO heavyweight titles against Usyk.

Usyk captured a gold medal in the 2012 Olympic games, at heavyweight. Joshua captured gold at the same event, but one division up at super heavyweight.

The Ukrainian boxer turned pro as a cruiserweight.

In 2018, he became the undisputed champion by cleaning out the weight class and unifying the WBC, IBF, WBA, WBO world titles - with a twelve round decision victory over Murat Gassiev to win the first season of the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight tournament.

After picking up a knockout victory over Tony Bellew, he vacated his belts and moved up to heavyweight the following year, with a stoppage win over late replacement Chazz Witherspoon.

Last October, Usyk had a tougher than expected twelve round decision win over dangerous veteran Derek Chisora.

Most observers view Usyk as a blown-up cruiserweight who is competing at heavyweight - but Nelson disagrees with that viewpoint.

"Usyk is the best fighter we may have seen in the ring with AJ to date," said Nelson to Sky Sports.

"Success-wise - amateur and professional - style-wise, he is the best fighter that AJ will get in the ring with.

"Not everyone will realize that. People might think, 'AJ is getting in the ring with a cruiserweight,' but he is the best, in my opinion. He's just a winner all the way through."
