Nathan Cleverly has retired from boxing.

The Welshman, who is a two-time world champion, revealed his decision on Sunday (August 27) after being stopped in Las Vegas.

‘Clev’, 30, lost his WBA ‘regular’ light-heavyweight world title at the T-Mobile Arena against ex-WBC super-middleweight king Badou Jack, as part of the undercard to Floyd Mayweather’s 50th and final ring appearance against Conor McGregor.

“Well done to the new champion [Badou Jack],” Cleverly, who held the British, Commonwealth, European and WBO interim world titles before being confirmed as a world champion in May 2011, wrote on Twitter.

“Thank you for the opportunity to fight on this event. Also, a massive shout-out to those that have supported me over the years.

“I’ve lived it and loved every second of this sport.

“A few too many miles on the clock. Thank you and goodbye, boxing.”

Cleverly had five defences of the WBO title at 175 pounds before running into mandatory challenger Sergey Kovalev.

The Russian competently dispatched of the Cefn Fforest fighter, prompting a move up to cruiserweight for a spell.

He then came back down to light-heavyweight, losing a WBC International title challenge to Andrzej Fonfara in Chicago, before going on to challenge Juergen Braehmer for his secondary crown which he ultimately succumbed to Jack on the same bill as the cross-code combat event that will be talked about for many years to come.
