On August 5th, world WBO flyweight champion Omar Narváez, will fight Rexon Flores, from Philippines, at Córdoba City, Argentina. It will be the 8th defense of Narvaez, who has a pro record of 21-0-2, 15 KO. Narvaez has received a solid gold ring from Francisco Valcarcel, for his five first defenses of his crown.

Rexon Flores is the number one contender with a pro record of 12-1-2, 6 KO. The fight will be held at Orfeo, a modern Cordoba stadium with 15,000 seats. In the same card will be fighting Israel “Cachito” Pérez, the national super featherweight champion and Carolina “Chapita” Gutierrez, the world boxing champion from the WIBA.

A couple of weeks ago, promoter Gary Shaw was in Buenos Aires and had a meeting with Mario Margossian, who is partner of Osvaldo Rivero in the managing of Navarez career. “I came personally to Argentina because it was a great mistake”, said Shaw. The mistake was that some person in the Shaw organization made an offer to Narvaez for a unification fight with Vic Darchinyan. The offer was about 70,000 dollars, but some person send a fax offering 30,000. As the name of the person is very well known, Shaw declined to mention it. “The real thing is that we are looking in the future”, said Margossian. “Mister Shaw was in the ring side watching in action Marcos Maidana (16-0-0, 15KO) and has interest in him, too. We are open to all offers and we thank mister Shaw for the gesture”.

This fight with Rexon Flores will be the first world title fight for Narvaez at Cordoba, where he is living in the last six years. He was born at Trelew, Chubut, at the Patagonia, but he prefers to work at Cordoba with Carlos tello, former Olympic trainer. Narvaez is a southpaw with a lot of combinations. He suffered a motor crush a year ago and was a long time inactive. “But that’s over, I will be fighting normally in the future”.

We hope so.
