According to Hall of Fame trainer Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain, there is no reason for 31-year-old Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to retire from the sport.

On May 6th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the former WBC middleweight champion was dominated over twelve rounds by country rival Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

The fight was severely one-sided with Chavez Jr. offering up little to no offense in the majority of the contest. All three judges scored every round for Canelo.

For the fight with Canelo, Chavez Jr. hired Nacho and conditioning coach Angel "Memo" Heredia - as the boxer was concerned about making the catch-weight of 164.5-pounds.

The lackluster performance created a fury among the sold-out crowd at the venue and the countless fans who purchased the fight on pay-per-view.

Several Mexican boxing legends were furious over his performance and made calls for his retirement.

But Nacho, who has no problem with continuing his relationship with Chavez Jr. (50-3-1, 32 KOs), believes the fighter can bounce back if he takes things seriously.

"He can continue working in professional boxing, but he needs to manage himself better in the gym and win several bouts," Nacho told ESPN Deportes.

"The strategic and technical plan drawn up to face Canelo Alvarez did not work. Our plan, it simply did not work out ... Chavez Jr. did not do what was needed in this fight, which was to prevent Canelo from hitting him by fighting on the outside. That was it."

Nacho also praised the the quality of Canelo, who on September 16th will challenge WBC, WBA, IBF, IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in what is surely going to be the biggest boxing event of the year.

He said Canelo is a good fighter, who knows how to dodge punches, throw strong combinations and clearly displayed that he has the ability to beat any opponent in the ring.
