At The Armory in Minneapolis, Mykal Fox (22-3, 5 KOs) admits that he was shocked when the scorecards were read for Saturday's FOX televised co-main event, which saw him lose a twelve round unanimous decision to two-time Venezuelan Olympian Gabriel Maestre (4-0, 3 KOs).

Fox accepted the fight on late notice, when Maestre's original opponent tested positive for COVID-19.

The outcome allowed Maestre to walk away with the interim-WBA welterweight title.

After a slow first round, Fox landed a counter left hand that dropped Maestre in the second round.

The much taller and longer Fox was also very elusive and forced Maestre to chase after him. Fox used his legs very well and never stopped throwing quick punches.

Maestre struggled in the fight and found himself unable to land big punches.

When the contest came to a close, most ringside observers had Fox well ahead and expected him to win a clear decision.

However, in a stunner, the judges all saw the fight in favor of Maestre by scores of 114-113, 115-112 and 117-110.

Fans in attendance were upset with the outcome, while the PBC on FOX broadcast team were shocked.

Fox was in disbelief at the judges’ scores post-fight, while Maestre declared he was willing to give Fox a rematch.

"I was stunned by the decision,” said Fox. “There's no way he won more rounds than me. I knocked him down. I hurt him. I don't know what else I was supposed to do. I don't know what the judges were looking at. Look at his face and tell me he won that fight."
