Earlier today, Matchroom Boxing won the World Boxing Association's purse bid to promote the fight between WBA, IBF super bantamweight champion Murodjon Akhmadaliev from Uzbekistan and the mandatory challenger and WBA Gold champion Ronny Rios from the United States.

Shaun Palmer, representing Matchroom Boxing, made the highest bid to promote the fight with $525,555, and the tentative date for the fight was set for August 21st. The three possible venues are New York, Los Angeles, and Tashkent (Uzbekistan).

On the other hand, Golden Boy Promotions, who represent Rios, made an offer of $503,000 through their representative Robert Díaz, and had August 28th as a tentative date for the fight.

The procedure was held online through the Zoom platform and was presided by the WBA's Director of the Championships Committee, Carlos Chávez.

According to Eddie Hearn of Matchroom, the date and venue will be finalized shortly.

Rios is riding a good streak of wins, with victories against Diego De La Hoya and Oscar Negrete.

The fight with Negrete took place back in February in Indio, California.

For his part, Akhmadaliev captured the titles last January with a twelve round split decision win over Daniel Roman.

He came back last month and stopped Ryosuke Iwasa in five rounds.
