On a loaded weekend of boxing that has already endured weigh-in issues on competing shows, everyone did their job at the scale in El Paso.

Unbeaten former WBO junior middleweight titlist Jaime Munguia is set for his scheduled 12-round showdown versus former title challenger Kamil Szeremeta. Both boxers made weight for their DAZN-televised main event, taking place Saturday afternoon at Don Haskins Center on the campus of the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) beginning 3:30 p.m. Eastern/1:30 p.m. local time.

Tijuana’s Munguia (36-0, 29KOs) weighed 159.6 pounds for his third fight at middleweight. The undefeated 24-year old last appeared in a 7th round stoppage of Bahama’s 2008 Olympian and veteran contender Tureano Johnson last October 30 in Indio, California.

Szeremeta (21-1, 5KOs)—who weighed 159.8 pounds—accepted the fight on short notice, replacing countryman Maciej Sulecki (29-2, 11KOs) who never offered an official reason for his untimely withdrawal. It comes six months after the middleweight contender from Bialystok, Poland suffered his first career defeat, a one-sided 7th round knockout loss to IBF middleweight titlist Gennadiy Golovkin (41-1-1, 36KOs) last December in Hollywood, Florida.

2018 Olympic Silver medalist Bektemir Melikuziev faces Philadelphia’s Gabriel Rosado (25-13-1, 14KOs) in the evening’s chief support, scheduled for 12 rounds.

Melikuziev (7-0, 6KOs) weighed 168 pounds for his third pound since the pandemic. The Uzbek southpaw was previously due to face former three-time light heavyweight champ Sergey Kovalev earlier this year, only for Kovalev to test positive for a banned substance to ruin plans for their January 30 crossroads bout.

A step up in class still awaits Melikuziev in Rosado, a battle-tested former title challenger who also weighed 168 pounds.

The evening’s lone title fight pits Ibeth Zamora in a WBC flyweight title defense versus 2012 Olympic Bronze medalist Marlen Esparza.

Zamora (32-6, 12KOs)—who fights out of San Cristobal Huicholchitlan, Mexico—weighed 111.4 pounds for her first career fight in the United States. She attempts the third defense of her belt versus Houston’s Esparza (9-1, 1KO), who also checked in at 111.4 pounds for her first career major title fight. The bout is Esparza’s third since a technical decision loss to Seniesa Estrada—now a WBA strawweight titlist—in their November 2019 grudge match.

Opening the DAZN telecast, Blair “The Flair” Cobbs (14-0-1, 9KOs) and Brad Solomon (29-3, 9KOs) both weighed 146.8 pounds for their scheduled 10-round welterweight contest.

Below are the weights for the remaining undercard bouts, which will air live on Golden Boy Promotions’ Facebook page immediately following the DAZN telecast.
