Jamie Munguia is set to fight in front of a hometown crowd for the first time in more than four years.

The former WBO junior middleweight titlist enters his fifth straight fight as an aspiring middleweight contender as he faces D’Mitrius Ballard. Both fighters made weight for the scheduled 12-round battle of unbeaten middleweights, which airs live on DAZN from Plaza Monumental in Munguia’s hometown of Tijuana, Mexico.

Munguia (38-0, 30KOs) weighed 159½ pounds for his first fight at home since July 2017, ten months prior to his WBO junior middleweight title-winning knockout of Sadam Ali. Ballard, a 28-year-old middleweight hopeful from Temple Hills, Maryland, weighed 159½ pounds for just his second career fight outside of the United States.

Saturday’s bout is the first anywhere in Mexico for Munguia since April 2019, when he was considered fortunate to escape with a 12-round majority decision in Monterrey, Mexico. The win marked the fourth successful WBO junior middleweight title defense for Munguia, who defended it once more before moving up to middleweight where he has won four straight wins as a contender. The most recent came in a twelve-round decision over Gabriel Rosado last November at Honda Center in Anaheim.

The same show saw Ballard (21-0-1, 13KOs) end a 23-month inactive stretch, earning a ten-round decision victory over Paul Valenzuela Jr. Ballard was previously tabbed as a late replacement for Poland’s Maciej Sulecki to face Munguia last April, only to suffer an elbow injury which resulted in the entire show being postponed to June.

Munguia wound up facing former title challenger Kamil Szeremeta—who also replaced Sulecki on short notice—on the June 19 card in El Paso, scoring a one-sided sixth-round stoppage.

Below are the weights for the rest of the DAZN card, which airs live beginning 9:00 pm ET/6:00 pm PT.

William Zepeda (24-0, 22KOs), San Mateo, Atenco, Mexico, 134½ pounds vs. Luis Angel Viedas (29-11-1, 10KOs), Tijuana, 134½ pounds—10 rounds, lightweight
