More on Boytsov Accident: Shifted Days, Various Versions

By Alexey Sukachev

News and rumours continue to circulate over badly injured Russian heavyweight Denis Boytsov (36-1, 27 KOs), who was found with a serious head trauma in a Berlin train tunnel and placed into an induced coma by medical staff. With each headline, message or piece of gossip - new facts are revealed about the nature of the sad accident, which can very well end Boytsov’s career.

First of all, previously reported date of the accident is now shifted a week earlier. According to Berlin police, Boytsov was found unconscious with a severe head trauma and hand injuries at about 4:30 PM on Sunday, May 3, not at the end of the last week as was delivered earlier.

The undisclosed speaker of the Berliner police told the following to TASS Russian media agency - “Police investigators have talked to possible witnesses and have analyzed metro tapes. As of now, no signs of an assault are found. Right now we [police] consider it an accident”.  The representative didn't comment on rumors of Boytsov running away from assailants but stated that new versions of the incident can surface as the investigation progresses.

Meanwhile, Boytsov’s wife Olga Litvinova points to some men in boxing industry, non-ambiguously hinting to none other than scandalous ex-promoter Waldemar Kluch of Universum, who had a conflict with Boytsov over his future and possible fights with elite heavyweights Wladimir Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin, which provoked a promotional move by the fighter to Sauerland Event in 2013.

“We did speak to each other early in the morning (May 3), and then he went with some lads from Hamburg to watch Mayweather vs. Pacquiao. We then touched base at 9 AM, and Denis told me he was coming back home. He never came”, said Litvinova to the “Soviet Sport”.

“He told me that he would watch the Fight with guys from Hamburg, and we have a history with that city. Two years ago Denis left promoter Waldemar Kluch, and we received threats and vile words at the time. Denis got written messages that he would end up in a wheel chair. It all ended with his adviser (Gagik Khachatrian) having been terribly beaten by unknown thugs. Only then the police interfered, and Kluch spent three years in prison, but he was freed three months ago”, continued Litvinova.

“We don’t know everything, and the police has asked us not to voice all of our versions, but it can be a consequence of that story.  Alcohol was found in Denis’ blood, and we were also told about some add-ons and sedatives – for him to be even weaker”.

Contrary to the police speaker, Boytsov’s wife confirmed that the accidental nature of the injuries, suffered by Boytsov, is questioned by the police.

“They continue the investigation, and are telling us that it doesn’t look like an accident. We are also waiting for the doctors to tell us how the damage had been inflicted. Right now we can only say that Denis has a serious head trauma, and his hands aren’t seriously injured. He has been put into an induced coma because of a cephaledema. He will be put out of it as soon as the latter disappears, and he feels relief. The next week we shall know more about his condition and prospects. Thankfully, his life seems not to be at stake now”.

“We have been studying the tape for several hours”, concluded Litvinova. “Denis was moving fast, as he always does, but he wasn’t running. He was in an adequate, conscious condition. However, it was at 11 AM, and he was found several hours later”.

Non-surprisingly Waldemar Kluch has quite a different point of view both regarding Boytsov’s person and nature of the accident. He has even threatened legal proceedings against Boytsov’s wife, claiming slander.

“Has she really accused me of anything? Bulls…t! He is a debauchee, a drunk. Possibly, he once again was drunk and got into a story – that’s all. And now they are trying to put everything on me. I have never had any problems with Denis. Boytsov chose to go away because of his alcoholic habits. He can’t fight it so he chose to go. He has even been escorted out from ladies’ toilets”, told Kluch to LifeNews.ru.

“Regarding the accident… Police will find someone I suppose, and we will get to know who that man Denis had encountered with was. I saw Denis the last time two years ago. I have never had any desire to see him again”, continued Kluch.

“I don’t want to accuse anybody in this horrible accident”, said Gagik Khachatryan to Sportbox.ru. “I just pray for Denis to fully recover and to find out who those animals who had done this to him were. I will do everything to help Denis see his still-to-be-born child but expect his awakening no earlier than in a couple of weeks”.

Khachatryan also doesn’t expect Boytsov to continue his career.
