John Molina Jr.’s second attempt at making weight Friday night wasn’t much more successful than his first try Friday afternoon.

The supposed junior welterweight contender weighed 143.4 pounds two hours after he weighed in at 144 pounds for his 140-pound title fight against Terence Crawford on Saturday night at CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Representatives for Crawford (29-0, 20 KOs), who’s promoted by Top Rank Inc., and Molina (29-6, 23 KOs), who’s advised by Al Haymon, came to a financial agreement more than two hours after the second weigh-in that’ll allow the 12-round fight to proceed as planned.

“We were just glad that he didn’t come back weighing more than he did the first time,” said Carl Moretti, Top Rank’s vice president of boxing operations. “I’ve seen that happen enough times.”

There are no restrictions on how much Molina can weigh Saturday morning or when he enters the ring the face Crawford, the WBC/WBO super lightweight champion, in what is now a non-title fight. Molina did, however, pay an undisclosed sum out of his six-figure purse to make sure their HBO “World Championship Boxing” main event was not canceled.

“It took some work,” Moretti said, “but we got to a number that Crawford was satisfied with.”

Crawford-Molina will headline HBO’s tripleheader, set to begin at 9:35 p.m. ET/PT.

The telecast will start with a scheduled 12-round bout between New Zealand’s Joseph Parker (21-0, 18 KOs) and American Andy Ruiz (29-0, 19 KOs) for the vacant WBO world heavyweight title. Once HBO airs Parker-Ruiz, which will be contested in Auckland, New Zealand, a second time, HBO’s live telecast will move to Omaha for a 10-round lightweight encounter between Phoenix’s Ray Beltran (31-7-1, 19 KOs, 1 NC) and Mason Menard (32-1, 24 KOs), of Rayne, Louisiana.
