Mitchell Smith is planning a move down in weight in the near future.

The Harrow Weald puncher (13-0, 7 KOs) is currently up at super featherweight and is set to defend his WBO Inter-Continental belt on December 19, live on BoxNation.

Smith, 23, however, isn’t planning on sticking around at the 9st 4lbs division after his rescheduled clash against George Jupp at Manchester Arena.

He has outlined his intention to drop down a weight class, to featherweight, as he eyes potential clashes against current British champion Ryan Walsh and Commonwealth titlist Josh Warrington, as well as IBF world ruler Lee Selby.

“I’m going to move down to featherweight after Christmas,”  the man who’s been out since July –– following his scintillating one-round stoppage of Dennis Tubieron –– said.

“I’m fighting before Christmas and there have been talks of fighting after Christmas, too, so it’s about staying in the gym and keeping on the weight.

“You’ve got the likes of Ryan Walsh who has the British title, with being in Frank Warren’s stable and I’d love a fight with him.

“His brother came into my gym one day and had a bit to say, so we had a bit of needle over the ring.

“But I don’t like him and I know I hit harder than him, that I’m better than him and I know that if I catch him he’ll go over.”
