Mikhail Aloyan, formerly a decorated amateur star and then a world title challenger, got back into action after more than a year off the map to convincingly outpoint WBA #14 super flyweight Ronal Batista (12-2, 8 KOs) in Kemerovo, Russia.

The fight wasn’t close as the light-hitting Russian technician (of Yazidi origin) dominated the game from the starters. He almost immediately dropped the Panamanian for a flash knockdown with a stinging left, then continued to outbox him thoroughly.

Batista had trouble finding the target against the fluid local boxer. Aloyan used his southpaw stance to create opportunities and to then seize them but his lack of punch forced a long night for both combatants.

Final scores were: 119-108, 119-108, and 117-110 - for Aloyan (5-1), who has still been unable to score his first stoppage as a pro. He is now the WBA 115lb gold champion.

Aloyan was coming off a close decision loss to then WBO bantamweight world champion Zolani Tete in the quarterfinal of the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) second season.
